Barbara Ann Hoar

Barbara Ann Hoar (nee Brenner), 89, of Bath, SC, passed away on July 28, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Hoar, Sr., daughter Vicky (Brady) Spence, daughter-in-law Dana Baldridge, sister Grace Brenner, brother George Brenner, and brother-in-law Robert Gulley.

She is survived by her children: Marvin (Carrie) Hoar, Jr, of Martinez, Gena (Mike) Adams of N. Augusta, James Hoar of Bath, Eva (Brian) McDonald of Charles Town, WV, and grandchildren: Ben (Kat) Adams of Savannah, Grace (Karsten) Messer of Evans, Theron Hoar of Charlotte, NC, and her sister Margaret Gulley, brother Harry (Linda) Brenner, and sister-in-law Eily Brenner.

Born April 5, 1937, in Alexandria, VA, she was the fourth of five children to the late Lester and Susan (Allen) Brenner. Growing up, she loved roller skating and spending time at the family's beach house in Western Shore, MD. When she was not paddling a raft in the Chesapeake Bay or trapping blue claws off the Dares Beach pier, she was hunting the Scientific Cliffs where she found a Megalodon tooth the size of her hand.

Barbara married Marvin, Sr, in 1959 and moved to Maine where she worked as a dental hygienist while he was stationed in Italy in the Army. After an honorable discharge through Fort Gordon, they resided in Augusta and started a family. A few years later, they moved to Burnettown, SC.

Our mom was a loving and caring person who did her best. She would try to help anyone who needed it; from front porch counseling to just giving, you a big hug. Mom had a way of helping you figure things out. She loved all our friends; most went camping with us at Hunting or Cumberland Island, swimming at Clark's Hill or Richardson's Lake, or just hanging out at band practice next door. Mom treated everyone like family. She loved crocheting and enjoyed giving her personalized blankets to friends, family, and those she appreciated. One of her greatest joys was helping raise her grandson, Theron. Mom will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing she touched the lives of so many in the Valley.

In lieu of sending flowers, use that money to make dinner for your family and truly appreciate your time together.

She did not wish for a funeral service. Her ashes will be spread off the 100-mile bridge (Sheldon, SC) to join our dad, at a later date.
