Clarence Nathaniel Rushton

September 27, 1936 — October 16, 2025

Graniteville, SC

Mr. Clarence Nathaniel Rushton, age 89, beloved husband of 44 years to Mrs. Shirley S. Rushton, entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Graniteville, South Carolina.

Born in Vaucluse, SC, on September 27, 1936, Clarence was the son of the late Clarence and Lula Mae Rushton. He was a proud graduate of Graniteville High School and dedicated 34 years of service to the Graniteville Company, where he worked as an Overseer. A true patriot, Clarence faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis and continued in the Army Reserve for seven additional years.

Clarence had a remarkable work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. After his years at Graniteville Company, he owned and operated Croft Hill Siding and Windows for 14 years before passing the business on to his son. Later, he and his brother, James, fulfilled a shared dream when they opened Rushton’s Barbeque Buffet, which they successfully ran together for five years.

Clarence was a devoted member of Mercy Church in Aiken, SC, where his faith remained the foundation of his life. He was a man of deep integrity, known for his kindness, humility, and quiet strength. Above all, he cherished his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His grandchildren were his heart, and he found joy in every moment spent with them. He will be remembered for his warm smile, gentle spirit, and the love he poured into everyone he met.

In addition to his loving wife, Shirley, Clarence is survived by his brothers, James Rushton (Doris) and Horace “Bubba” Rushton; his sisters, Ola Mae Peavler (Gene) and Deanne Rushton Orr; and his cherished grandchildren, April P. Abbott, Amber Tyler, Kristin Walker, Damon (DC) Rushton, Jason Rushton, Alicia Toole, Christie Lewis, Paisley Cunningham, Grayson Cunningham, and Teagan (“The Baby”) Cunningham. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sons, Dennis Rushton, Dwayne Rushton, and Damon Rushton.

A celebration of Clarence’s life will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Murphy and Pastor Todd Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens in Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends Sunday evening October 19, 2025 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that Clarence is now at peace in his eternal home, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. His legacy of love, faith, and hard work will live on through the family and friends who were blessed to know him.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
